DAY-LIGHT PROTECTION SUNSCREEN SPF 50/PA+++ Review

DAY-LIGHT PROTECTION SUNSCREEN SPF 50/PA+++

I’m thrilled to announce I’ve found my soulmate. No, I’m not talking about Korean drama idols Gong Yoo or Lee Dong-Wook (unfortunately) but Neogen Dermalogy’s Day-Light Sun Protection Sunscreen SPF 50/PA +++.

Ok, I’m obsessing over another sun cream, what’s new? Sure, it’s my favourite beauty product but protecting our skin throughout the year with SPF is very important. If you haven’t tried this delightful Neogen offering, you really should.

It aims to offer intensive protection from UVA and UVB rays as well as hydrate skin. The PA rating in sun cream is a Japanese protection grade which tells you the UVA protection level. PA+ stands for some UVA ray protection, PA++ offers moderate protection and PA+++ gives very good UVA protection.

I couldn’t wait to try this. Here’s how I got on…

Application

Hands up if you’ve spent what feels like an eternity applying sun cream only to end up looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost regardless of how long you spend rubbing it in?

If you have a multi-step beauty regime, it’s important to find sun protection that fits in with the rest of your routine. Who else loathes the dreaded ‘product pilling’ (when a product isn’t easily absorbed and just sits on the surface of the skin)?

Neogen Dermalogy’s Day-Light Sun Protection Sunscreen SPF 50/PA +++ blends into my skin within minutes and layers over my moisturiser perfectly. Even after I apply a colour correcting cushion there’s no pilling. Hurrah! It smells INCREDIBLE, too. It’s the stuff of dreams…

My complexion is noticeably more moisturised with a lovely glow (à la Ryohei Kato!). My skin has been rather sensitive at the moment and after applying this, it feels less irritated. It doesn’t leave a white cast or make my skin greasy. Seriously, this sun cream is my life. I’ve already purchased another bottle.

Ingredients

DAY-LIGHT PROTECTION SUNSCREEN SPF 50/PA+++

I’m delighted this is formulated without parabens, phthalates and sulphates. I’m equally thrilled it doesn’t contain a common sun cream ingredient octocrylene, which I’m keen to avoid. According to Women’s Health Magazine, when octocrylene is exposed to UV light it absorbs the rays and produces free radicals that can damage skin cells and cause mutations. In addition, it’s easily absorbed in our skin and can accumulate in our bodies.

Other ingredients include titanium dioxide, which helps to absorb UV light and zinc oxide, which sits on top of skin and reflects UVA and UVB rays.

What’s extra special about Neogen Dermalogy’s Day-Light Sun Protection Sunscreen are the moisturising ingredients. Sodium hyaluronate helps to boost moisture levels by penetrating the skin quickly. In case you didn’t know, sodium hyaluronate also has the ability to hold more than 1,000 times its weight in water.

My sensitive skin is soothed by a combination of euterpe oleracea fruit extract (acai) fruit oil, gentiana lutea root extract, rosa damascena flower extract and portulaca oleracea extract, which all have antioxidant benefits. Extracts of rubus idaeus (raspberry) help to calm inflamed skin and strengthen capillary walls, perfect for us gals with redness/rosacea. Vaccinium angustifolium (blueberry) extracts help boost vitamin C levels in the skin, which can prevent UV damage.

Other ingredients include anti-ageing beta-glucan and adenosine. The latter has anti-wrinkle benefits, too. This sun cream also contains my beloved skin brightening niacinamide and delicious lemon verbena. Wow, this really does have it all, doesn’t it?

Packaging

Who else fawns over beautiful product packaging? Guilty as charged. The packaging for this is sleek and sexy. Who wouldn’t want to be seen with it in their cosmetic bag?
