This Cleanser is Not Harsh

Neogen Coconut Pure Mild Cleanser

Honestly speaking, I don’t pay much attention to the ingredient list when I look at cleansing product.

It’s because I do not have allergy to the sulfates and I believe the virtue of cleanser is in its cleansing efficiency rather than in the mild ingredients. And I like “refreshing” and matt finish when it comes to cleanser because it feels “cleaner” compared to cleansers claiming “moisturized” finish. So, before I reviewed Neogen’s Coconut Milk Pure Mild Cleanser, I was a little skeptical to these mild concept cleansers. But Neogen brought a decent yet mild cleanser in terms of its efficiency and ingredients especially for the dry and sensitive type skins. So let’s take a look.

Neogen Coconut Pure Mild Cleanser

First Impression

The instruction from Neogen says you just directly apply this Coconut Milk Pure Mild Cleanser on your face, without adding water first. Then, you add a little bit of water, massage out the dirt and make up, then wash your face afterwards. It is a thick gel type texture but as soon as it gets on your skin, it turns into creamy and bubbly texture. When you add a little bit of water, it melts right away and feels much softer on your skin. It does not create cream-like rich bubbles but definitely convenient enough to cleanse out your face. It effectively cleanses facial makeup (BB, foundation and concealer) and light colors such as eye shadows, and lipstick. It does require a little more rolling on some water-proof eyeliner. So if you use water-proof, comprehensive color makeup, you probably need cleansing balm or oil before you use this cleanser. This Coconut Milk Pure Mild Cleanser does not dry out your skin after you use, nor leaving slippery & unfinished sensation. That’s the best part of this cleanser.

Neogen Coconut Pure Mild Cleanser Ph test

Ingredient & pH test

I know many of you already know weak acidic cleansers are best for your skin. So, I brought pH test kit from the lab and tested. As you can see from the picture, it is very lightly acidic to neutral (pH scale 6.5 – 6.9,) so I could make sure this is not an over-drying type of cleanser with basic pH. Basic pH cleaners dry out and make temporarily abrasion on your top skin layer, so it makes your skin sensitive. (Human healthy skin has slightly low pH than neutral for various purpose but I won’t extensively mention it here.) Anyway, in terms of pH, Coconut Milk Pure Mild Cleanser is a good one.

The ingredient list is also very interesting. It is completely sulfate free, so definitely an important and exciting factor for the people who concern sulfates family such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. (I’m not prototypically against SLS if it is used in the cleanser with right amount.) It does not follow typical Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid and KOH formula either. They use coconut oil based ingredients such as potassium cocoyl glycinate and potassium cocoate as its main surfactants along with coconut fruit extract and coconut oil and traceable amount of other essential oil. Sodium benzoate and phenoxyethanol were used as preservative just like many other paraben free products. Cocamidopropyl betaine in the middle of the list a little unexpected but since it is a commonly used ingredient in other sulfate free cleansers as well.  Overall, Coconut Milk Pure Mild Cleanser is a very decent cleanser with relatively mild ingredients.

After thought

It is a very satisfying cleanser without many harsh ingredients. I love its delicate formulation for effective yet mild cleanser. It does cleanse very thoroughly, you just need a little more time to cleanse color makeup out of your skin and big plus is that it does not feel dry after cleaning. I don’t mean it feels like a moisturizer after cleansing, but compared to many other cleansers, it does feel moisturized without slippery cleanser residue. I think it is a perfect cleanser in the morning, when you feel irritated and dry. Good job, Neogen.
