Praise the Cica! The Centella Asiatica products you need for calm skin

By Carolina Malis

Spring is around the corner… only it doesn't feel quite like it just yet. While we’re technically less than one month away from flower-season it still feels like a blizzard is about to attack, right? Thing with this weather is our whole body gets a little confused, specially when we start getting warm days followed by freezing days, followed by warm days again, and that's what they call the non-perks of transitional weather, my friends.

While that’s the moments most of us get sick or catch the cold we never got during winter, it’s not just our organism that gets hit, our skin can get super stressed because of this unstable weather too and it shows. Have you been having the best skin-time of your life and suddenly pimples, breakouts, dryness and irritation show up? Your skin probably catched some kind of imbalance and decided to fight it, reason why you’re seeing all these things show up on your face. But as tragic as it can be once you're experiencing it, there’s - thank god - some ways to fight the effects. Have you ever heard/read me talking about Cica? If not then this is the first time you’re reading me because I pretty much talk about it every day of my life.

If you’re still not familiar with it, let me introduce you. Cica (short for Centella Asiatica) is the ingredient you wanna keep by your side. Your skin’s best friend. Your pal. A powerful medicinal herb that can improve blood circulation, cure fevers, soothe burns, wounds, psoriasis, acne, irritation and calm sensitive skin. Sounds too good to be true but it’s all very real, believe me. Since I learned about it for the first time a couple of years ago it's been a staple on my routine and I can assure you it will be for the rest of my life (yeah, I get a little dramatic with skincare but who doesn't?)

There’s thousands of products out there containing Cica, that's for sure, but I do have certain favorites, must admit. Since I tried Neogen’s Cica line for the first time I’ve never, ever stopped using it. I don’t feature all products at the same time on my routine but I always use at least one of them, an I wanna share a little about two of my absolute favorites with you.

Cell Calming Cica Tonic

Just, wow. This toner is what sensitive-skin dreams are made of. It’s so immediately soothing you won't believe it. This multi-performance toner helps repair our skin by using 4-Core centella Asiatica ingredientes such as madecassic acid, madecassoside, Phytosphingosine and ceramides, all to reinforce, soothe and strengthen our skin barrier.

It also has a brightening effect, nothing too strong but it definitely helps adding some light to complexion, plus its antioxidant properties help prevent the formation of fine lines.

Cell Revival Cica Cream

One of my favorite creams ever, PERIOD. I’m so obsessed with this cream I had 4 of my friends buy it too. Besides containing Madecassoside and Madecassic acid to calm redness, inflammation and irritation, this cream is also formulated with edelweiss extract and panthenol which keep skin hydrated, young-looking and provide anti-aging benefits. Best thing about this formula is how it feels on my skin. I describe it as a sorbet. It’s creamy at first but once it touches your skin it melts and absorbs in matter of seconds without leaving a greasy residue. Absolutely free of parabens, artificial fragrance, animal ingredients and mineral oils this moisturizer clearly fits every skin type but can be a treasure for those with sensitive and/or acne prone complexions.
